Shaping the Headstock
As seen previously, I roughed-in the headstock
pretty early in the process. Here is a shot of a nearly finished fingerboard sitting
on the neck blank. The headstock overlay is a piece of ebony. Note the trussrod access hole drilled through the overlay. I shaped the edges of the overlay using the drillpress and the sanding sleeves. |

Just for comparison, here is a shot of the final headstock. Ebony is really, really hard, and sanding it with progressively finer grades of sandpaper will produce a polished surfaced. The ebony looked great with the tung oil finish. | |
